ABOUT CLEANICE®
BEFORE CLEANICE
According to the FDA, ice is a food. Therefore, ice must be free of microbial contaminants and pathogens and stored safely prior to service.
Businesses face challenges keeping ice machines and bins free from mold and potential pathogens, often due to nearby food preparation. Breaking down these machines for cleaning is time-consuming and expensive.

FREQuENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers to your most common questions about CleanIce.
Yes, CleanIce is NSF/ANSI 12 registered for automatic ice making equipment. NSF/ANSI 12 establishes minimum food protection and sanitation requirements for the materials, design, construction and performance of automatic ice making equipment and related components that are used in the manufacturing, processing, storing, dispensing, packaging and transportation of ice intended for human consumption.
Yes, CleanIce is designed to deliver near‐undetectable levels of odor‐fighting gas. As soon as the machine is opened, any remaining gas will dissipate, or be flushed from the bin.
There is no PPE required to handle and use the CLEANICE product. When shipped dry, the CLEANICE contains the precursor ingredients listed on the product SDS. These ingredients are compartmentalized in a robust, tear‐resistant activation membrane. Upon the CLEANICE’s exposure to humidity, water vapor will enter the CLEANICE membrane, and chlorine dioxide gas will be generated. The gas will slowly release from the activation membrane at ultra‐low levels over the course of 30 days. Levels of chlorine dioxide gas should not exceed the OSHA Short Term Exposure Limit (0.3 ppm) or Time Weighted Average (0.1 ppm) for chlorine dioxide (reference CLEANICE in Freezer Report).
CleanIce sachets have a shelf life of 18 months. Once opened, the sachet is good for 30 days.
Yes, the gas generated by CleanIce quickly breaks down and leaves little‐to‐no residual. Additionally, the active ingredient is also an EPA‐approved drinking water treatment substance, as well as, holding FDA registrations for food contact.
If the plastic hang sleeve/holder falls from its position, attempt to dry the area thoroughly and replace the holder. If the holder will not stick, contact CleanIce support for further assistance, support@cleanice.net
CleanIce is contained in a strong puncture‐resistant pack/membrane. If the packet should break, remove ice and clean the ice bin. You can also contact CleanIce support for further assistance and instruction at support@cleanice.net
Yes, the holder is a food‐grade plastic safe for use in food processing tools like food processors and refrigerator linings. Additionally, the adhesive included on the holder meets the safety FDA regulations for indirect food contact.
